When we launched paid tiers, Flo\'s chat panel was gated behind a frosted overlay for Free users. You could see the panel existed, but typing did nothing. That was a bad trade. Free users never heard Flo speak, so they had no real reason to upgrade beyond reading a pricing page.
This week that changed.
What Free users get now
Open Flo on a Free account and you can actually chat. Try any of these:
- “Hi”: Flo greets you with the time of day plus your real overdue and urgent counts from your board.
- “What’s urgent?”: instant bulleted list of your urgent cards, each with its own context (“due today”, “2 days overdue”, etc.).
- “What should I focus on?”: a combined view of what’s overdue, what’s urgent, what’s due today. All in one reply.
- “Any meetings today?”: filtered list of Meeting-tagged cards happening today.
- “What’s on my plate?”: your full at-a-glance board summary.
- “Go to calendar” / “open notes”: Flo navigates you.
- “New board called Q2”: opens the template picker so you can make one.
All of this happens locally in your browser. Zero API calls. No tokens consumed. No monthly limit. It’s truly free and it’s truly usable.
Flo on Free still can’t create tasks, draft notes, chat about your specific cards, or summarize long memories. Those are the features Pro and Max pay for. If you ask Flo to do one of those, you’ll get a friendly nudge and a path to upgrade.
Why this matters
The honest version: if you can’t feel a product working, you can’t decide whether to pay for it. A free tier that shows you nothing is just a signup wall with extra steps.
We also bumped the Free plan from 1 board to 3 and Pro from 5 to 10. Small change, big difference. You can separate work from personal from a side project without touching a credit card.
Ask Flo what Flo does
If you’re on Free and want the full tour, just ask Flo “what can you do?” and you’ll get a side-by-side of what’s available now and what Pro/Max unlocks. The honest comparison lives inside the product where you’re actually using it.
